<![CDATA[Fast Tan information ]]>Tue, 22 May 2012 12:56:43 -0800http://www.brownallyear.com/1/post/2012/05/fast-tan-information.htmlOk so your thinking about getting a two hour tan...not standing there for two hours but a 5 minute tan wash in two hours.

These fast tans are great if your in a hurry, going out, dont like having a tan on all day, hate the feeling/smell of normal tans, however there are a few things to know about the fast tanning. These range from one hour to 3 hours. If your technician tells you that you can wash in one hour, make sure you do. Fast tan contains a higher percentage of DHA (the stuff that makes you brown) and higher DHA can sometimes lead to an un-natural looking tan. Most fast tans have higher DHA and carry a penetrator (chemical) in them to help develop the tan quickly. While some penetrators are better than others if your worried just stick with organic safe tanning. After your shower you may think your not that brown, wait another 10 hours before ringing your technician to tell them as the tan usually keeps on developing.

Other tips on fast tanning:
 • Your tan still develops after you have washed due to the chemical penetrator
 • Always wash at the recommended time frame
 • Moisturise your whole body after you wash to keep your skin nice and PLUMP
 • Wear loose fitting clothing for the tan
 • Stay away from water for two hours

<![CDATA[Can I get burnt with a spray tan?]]>Mon, 05 Mar 2012 13:29:26 -0800http://www.brownallyear.com/1/post/2012/03/can-i-get-burnt-with-a-spray-tan.htmlI get asked this questions a lot and here is some info that may be helpful.

A 2007 study show that sun exposure in the 24 hours following the application of a self tanner containing DHA makes the skin more susceptible to free-radical damage. So to minimize this risk always wear sunscreen and use an antioxidant moisturiser.

DHA does provide some UV protection, but not broad spectrum and it is short lived so you should always use a sunscreen if in the sun for long periods.

Again this may be why clients say to me I dont seem to burn as much when I go in the sun.

Best to cover up for the first 24 hours anyway as we all know what the nasty "free-radicals" can do and who can afford plastic
surgery later on so before you go sunning yourself, think about it. But if you live in NZ dont worry coz we didn't have summer!
